Leaves, Branches, and Roots: Knowing Who's Who in Your Life by Beebe Love
Some people come into our lives like leaves. They show up looking fresh, vibrant, and full of promise. Everything seems great... until you realize they're taking all the sunshine, water, and energy, and contributing about as much as a squirrel pays rent. Before long, they're gone with the next strong breeze because they were only meant to be around for a season.
Then there are the branches.
These are the people who tell you, "I've got your back!" And for a while, they do. You can lean on them, trust them, and count on their support. But when life's storms roll in, some branches crack under pressure. They may not be built to carry heavy loads, and eventually, they break away. They served a purpose in your life, but their season comes to an end.
And then there are the roots.
Roots are rare. They are deeply planted, steady, and strong. They don't need to be seen to make a difference. They stay connected through sunshine, rain, drought, and storms. Even when disagreements arise or life gets complicated, they find a way to grow stronger rather than grow apart. These are the people who stand beside you when life isn't picture-perfect.
The truth is, not everyone who leaves your life is a loss. Some people are part of a chapter, not the entire story. Be grateful for the memories, the laughter, the support, and yes, even the headaches. Every relationship adds something to the journey.
As life moves forward, cherish the roots, appreciate the branches, and don't be surprised when a few leaves blow away.
And while you're thinking about it... what kind of friend are you?
